Web Categories & SafeSearch

Block by category, enforce SafeSearch on every search engine, and apply age-appropriate content rules per device group. Runs at the secure gateway on top of the Web Filter — so even when a domain isn't in the blocklist, the URL or the search query can still be caught and rewritten. Consistent policy on-campus and off, iOS and Android, any browser.

What it does

30+ categories, millions of URLs

A community-maintained URL database covers gambling, social media, adult, weapons, streaming, gaming, file-sharing, drugs, dating, anonymisers and more. Toggle a category and the gateway enforces it in real time — no device push needed.

Age-appropriate content per group

Different policies for KG, elementary, middle and high school. Tighter rules for younger years, reasonable flexibility for older ones — managed as presets, not one-off domain lists.

SafeSearch enforced at the gateway

Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, YouTube — SafeSearch is forced on for every query. Students can't turn it off in the app because the enforcement happens upstream of the device, not on it.

Per-group overrides

Different classes or device sets get different rules — Grade 12 media students can research what Grade 4 can't. Changes propagate in seconds.

Blocks bypass tools

VPNs, anonymising proxies and other tools students try to use to sidestep the Web Filter — all categorised and blocked. Meets ADEK §4.1.2.a, which requires schools to restrict student VPN use on the school network.

Works across encrypted traffic

Even without full TLS inspection, the gateway reads the TLS hostname to block categorised domains. Turn on full inspection and URL paths become visible too.

Who it's for

Schools that need granular content control beyond a yes/no domain blocklist — age-graded, class-aware, bypass-resistant.
